Sunday Core Classes

Sunday Core Classes are designed to provide instruction in practical, biblical and systematic theology. The classes encourage a holistic approach to Christian growth that brings the Gospel to bear on all aspects of life. The format is Sunday mornings before service, 45-60 minutes, 4-6 sessions per class, which includes groups discussion, exercises, readings and resources. The overarching goal is to equip people to fulfill God’s purposes through His redemptive plan, reflecting what God is like to the world. These classes facilitate interaction and connection across Community Groups and other demographics.

Paying Attention to Jesus in a Distracted World

Sundays, July 21 – August 11, 8:45 – 9:45 am

In this 4-week course, we will learn how to pay attention to Jesus in a world filled with distractions. By focusing on a piece of visual art and a poem each week, we will contemplate the nature of Christ, remember our identity in Him, explore the work He has given us to do, lament the suffering in our world, and offer thanksgiving for the glimpses of His Kingdom we see on earth.

This class on spiritual formation is offered by Margaret Lindsey (Certificate in Spiritual Formation from Talbot School of Theology) and Jonathan Koch (Assistant Professor of English at Pepperdine University).

The Gospel Story

Many believers struggle to understand the bible or recognize the basic tenets of the Christian faith. Various pieces have been learned here and there, but not integrated into a larger story or system of beliefs. In order to equip and build up others (Ephesians 4:11-12), PCC offers a variety of online courses.

The Gospel Story: Part One – Old Testament Survey

Upcoming Date: TBD

A 13-week overview of how the Gospel story began in Creation and moved in the lives of Abraham, Moses, the Judges, Kings, & Prophets over a 2000-year timeframe. The material is taught by R.C. Sproul, Rankin Wilbourne, and other noted scholars. Participants will devote two hours per week, with guidance from instructors, discovering the long historical arc of the Gospel truth in each week’s lesson. The class is meant to help us see the coherent story of Scriptures, and how our own stories of Christ’s redemption are told on all of its pages.

Sticky Faith Parents: Building Lifelong Faith with Chuck Hunt

Saturday, September 7 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

On Saturday, September 7, we will host a parent seminar with Chuck Hunt from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. A light lunch and breakfast will be provided. Registration Fee: $10 per person ($20 per couple). Childcare Fee: $10 per child. Location: TBD.

Nearly half of all young people raised in Christian families walk away from their faith when they graduate from high school. That’s the bad news. But here’s the good news: research shows that parents are one of the primary influences on their child’s faith. Sticky Faith is an innovative, research-based, and extensively field-tested movement designed to equip parents with insights and ideas for nurturing long-term faith in children and young people. Workshop will be followed by Question & Response time.
