By Dave Kleinknecht, Director of Hope for Los Angeles

This Sunday, during and following each worship service, we’ll be highlighting ways to be involved in serving our city through Hope for Los Angeles. Now, the questions/barriers to getting involved in this type of ministry are many. Do I have time to serve? Am I passionate about anything Hope for LA is doing? Can I really make a difference?

Recently I asked some of our volunteers and leaders why they are involved in Hope for LA and here’s what they said:

“I’m involved in Hope for LA because it is aligned with God’s heart for the city and because He uses service to sanctify us. It’s amazing that when we serve we are the ones who are actually being transformed and blessed.” – Nadia, Family Rescue Center

“God loves the voiceless and Hope for LA gives me a chance to express that love.” – Joe, Christian Legal Aid

“I grow in seeing how God loves all His people and is at work in meeting each individual’s needs, no matter where they are in life.” – Peter, Zahn Memorial Shelter

“As I serve through Hope for LA and do the kinds of things that Jesus did, I get the opportunity to grow into the kind of person that Jesus is.” – José, Optimist Youth Home

“Hope for LA is an easy way for me to serve and connect with people who live in my own neighborhood.” – Sunim, PATH (People Assisting The Homeless)

“Friendship is the foundation of ministry and at the very core of anything we can offer to anyone. Through our Hope for LA team at Samoshel (Santa Monica Shelter), our focus is primarily on building deep and meaningful relationships with those experiencing homelessness, and breaking down the walls of ‘us’ and ‘them.'” – Sarah, Samoshel

“I am involved in Hope for LA because God has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and to use my gifts and resources for the community of LA.” – Michael, Impacting Hearts/Young Life

This Sunday, I invite you to check out the Hope for LA Fair after the worship service and see how you can get involved and take the next step in your journey of service.
